She enrolled in both a professional wrestling school and Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, after graduating from high school in 1998. Her first choice for wrestling school was Stu Hart's Dungeon, but she chose a more local school due to the geography. She was trained in the academy by the All Knighters (Joey Knight and Robin Knightwing), both of whom had previously trained in the Hart Dungeon. Nora Greenwald, also known as Molly Holly in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), later claimed that Carolan had paid for her to attend wrestling school after Carolan had given her a sample tape of her work. Alexis Laree was her professional wrestling debut opponent. She went on to work for a number of different independent promotions after that.
Phoenix made his return as a villain on Raw on July 9, 2007, while Melina claimed to be wounded. Phoenix replaced Melina as Jillian Hall's partner in a tag team match, but the two were defeated by Candice Michelle and Mickie James. Phoenix won the Interpromotional Divas battle royal at the SummerSlam pay-per-view to become the number one contender for Michelle's WWE Women's Championship. On the September 10 broadcast of Raw, Phoenix was pushed as a dominating Diva, labelling herself "The Glamazon" and attacked James, Hall, and Michelle. However, she was unable to defeat Michelle for the Women's Championship at Unforgiven. [38] On September 24, Phoenix pinned Michelle in a non-title mixed tag team bout on Raw, continuing their storyline rivalry.
